So, I survived the first weekend. It was tough. This faire is hard to work, with the Friday nights until 10 p.m., and Saturdays, too, and then up for opening at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Especially if you like to party with friends until late at night... ; )
Again, I wasn't supposed to work for Silvermane, but I did. I helped with set up on Friday, and was very glad for the money. Friday night was a bit slow, but I think that is normal, it being the very first night and all. Much fun hanging out with Keith (BGBF), Alex (Lost Art Chain Mail), Chris (Silverleaf), Ruth and Amanda (Mountain Rogues), and guest appearances from many including Heath and his "minder" (too funny, he brought a babysitter) John, what a nice guy, and Marrus, always great fun. Of course we got shushed and shut down at about 2 a.m., which was probably a good thing.
Saturday was O.K., usual faire stuff, many NE Rennie visitors, which was nice. We did our own little stone soup thing after faire, which worked out well. It's tough when faire ends so late, though. Too easy to stay up too late! Sunday was rough. I got home and slept, and slept. I have to try to get more sleep next weekend!
Next weekend I will be hawking T-shirts for Daniel Greenwolf and helping with Fantasy Dimensions, Kirin's booth, a bit. Not enough work at the Blacksmith's for me. I need to make at least enough money to fill the gas tank.
Not sure if I will be there the final weekend, as my JOB starts MONDAY. For REAL! And I don't want to mess it up. I don't know for sure what my hours will be yet. It was supposed to be 32 hours per week (which I thought would give me Fridays off), but has now been upped to 35. That is good news, but I will probably not make it to faire while adjusting to the new schedule. Priorities! I guess last summer was my summer of faires, I went to them all. So I had my time. Now is time to buckle under and get the real job going. *sigh*
*whispers* I got the job... (afraid to anger job Gods). I was the only person interviewed for the job, and I start in a couple of weeks! It is a "contract" position for now, but with an excellent chance of a permanent hire. *sigh* I won't relax until I am actually there, working. I can't wait! I'm sure I'll be soooooo tired the first few weeks. I haven't had to get up and go to work for over a YEAR (OMG). There will be alarm clocks. MANY alarm clocks. I am in the process of figuring out what I have that I can wear. I will be wearing lots of suits. I have various interview suits. They fit, while a lot of the rest of the work wardrobe does not due to weight loss. So I guess I will be very well-dressed. I suppose that's not a bad thing. I have been able to score some really nice suits at Macy's, $300+ for $70 on sale, I luuuuurvvvveeee Macy's sales!
It will be a good thing for me, all around. I am the type of person who gets more things done when I have more to do. Unemployment doesn't suit me at all. I did pretty well for a while, and got some projects done around the house. That slowly fizzled out. Once I'm back in a routine, I'm sure I'll do much better!
Southern CT Faire is starting this weekend, and I will be there, working for Butch, the Blacksmith. It will be nice to have a change from Silvermane. This faire is a lot of work, though, with Friday nights and Saturdays until 10:00 p.m. But it should be a fun time, as always! If you are going, be sure to stop by and say hello!
*sigh* I suppose SOME of it seems accurate. Doesn't look so good for the job hunt though...lol. "Crazy ideas"? Who, me? lol "Anyone who will listen?" Yup. And even those who wish I would just shut up. Hmmm, now to find an employer who will hire me to "express my unique self". Not terribly likely. Or at least not in any job I'd actually WANT. : P
Your Life Path Number is 3
Your purpose in life is to express your unique self.
You are a creative and artistic person with an interesting view on life.
Witty and outgoing, you enjoy sharing your crazy ideas with anyone who will listen.
A total social butterfly, you're the life of any party.
In love, you inspire and enchant your partner. You are often an object of fantasy and desire.
While you are very talented, you sometimes lack the ambition to put your talents in play.
And while your wit carries you a long way, you occasionally use it to mask your true feelings.
Your natural abilities can bring you all the success in the world ... if you let them
The job search goes on, with much help from some rennie and non-rennie friends (you guys are great!). The resume evolves on a daily basis. I have resume on the brain.
Today, a job turned up online that I had applied for, interviewed for (twice), and ALMOST got. The reason I didn't get it was because they decided to post it internally, and ended up with an internal candidate. Well, I guess that must not have worked out. I sent in my resume, and they called my agency a couple of hours later, asking about my availability and interest. My answer, "YES"! Don't care about the hours, duration of assignment, or much else. It is fresh experience on my resume, and one heck of a lot better than what I am doing now! I am hoping I get it and can start ASAP!
**Udate: I have an interview for the job tomorrow, the THIRD. But they are interviewing other candidates as well. *sigh* Pretty please... **
In other news, I don't much care what else Governor Rell does, she's OK in my book. As of August 1, there is health insurance (including prescription coverage) available for adults in Connecticut, at a reasonable rate. I'm sure it won't be the greatest coverage in the world, but it's better than nothing! Anyone who wants it can get it, and the cost is on a sliding scale based on income. That is a big relief for me, since my COBRA coverage expires on July 31, and individual medical coverage is out of the question for me. The only other option in CT is to go into an individual coverage "risk pool". The cost for that is astronomical (it's based on age and sex), and it doesn't offer prescription coverage. For anyone else who is interested, the new insurance plan is called Charter Oak Healthcare, and you can look it up online.
So, things seem to be (dare I say it?) improving? *smile*
Yup. I did. It was the Crimson Pirates CD release party at Ireland's, and it was a lot of fun. I didn't drive back that night, since I was staying at the Tux. The place was absolutely PACKED! Good to see lots of old friends, new friends from the LI Pirate Fest, and meet some new people, too. And awesome to pack up the car WITHOUT camping gear, garb, and all that other crap. Yeah, it was worth it!
