This time to North Carolina for the NC Renaissance Faire in Raleigh. Yeah, I know, glutton for punishment after the Florida trip, although that did have it's fun times, too. I am hoping it will break me out of this rut I seem to have gotten myself stuck in. I will be working for Silvermane, of course, all three weekends. The weather should be at least warmer than it is here, and there should be some interesting things to do around Raleigh. Also, the drive is not nearly as brutal, at only around 12 hours, not the grueling two-day, "stuck in the truck" that was the trip to Florida and back. And it's FAIRE! A Faire fix will be most welcome this early in the season. And add one more to the list of faires I haven't attended yet. I attended the Carolina Faire in November of 2006, and enjoyed that one a lot.
So, time to pack up the garb, pay the bills, do the damn taxes, and generally run around like a chicken with my head cut off, because we're leaving on Wednesday. But who am I kidding, I'm a total procrastinator, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
The cat is yowling already, he saw...the "Dreaded Suitcase of Dooooom".
What I learned at the "12th Annual Nude Leprechaun Party"...
Jiffy Pop does work over a fire pit. Daniel Greenwolf has a brother. Missy's Mom makes awesome corned beef (but you'd better be quick if you want any). Even if you have a very large viking sitting on your cooler of Mojitos, they will still mysteriously disappear (must be the Leprechauns). I am not the only awesome person named Laura, we need to start a club. I am not the only person who listens to Steeleye Span. Wookies make great lasagna. Matt gives great massages. Until that night, I HAD NOT experienced the lamest (and rudest) pick-up attempt ever. Matt and Carlene are very gracious hosts!
if I can figure out what the heck that is for me right now. Things are a bit tough here, don't want to make this sound like a pity-party, but with still no job in sight, my mood is not very good. Hasn't been for quite a while. I think I suffer a bit from lack of sunlight as well. And then, there's the fact that Scott passed away last week. Would be very upsetting under normal conditions. Added to the fact that I am already feeling pretty low, and it's like walking around carrying a boulder. Depression totally sucks. *sigh* O.K. Enough of that.
Anyhow, I had a really good time at the NE Rennies Dinner. I didn't go last year because it was too far (Portsmouth, NH). It was so good to see everyone. I do really wish more of my rennie friends lived closer to me. I was sad when it was over, I wished that it was longer than three hours, I didn't want to go home. And, even though I don't have much money, I splurged and bought $20 in raffle tickets, which was 25 tickets. It was a "teacup" raffle, so you could put tickets in only for the things you wanted. And I WON, not once, but THREE TIMES! I NEVER win at these things! I won a big bag of soap and lotions and stuff from Kate at Antika Nueva, and TWO $50 gift certificates from Tattoo Missy! So I can get the new tattoo I've been wanting, which is something I would never, ever do being unemployed. So, maybe I have some good luck coming my way? I hope so, because I sure am in need of it. The dinner was full to capacity, and I am hoping they have it in Mass again next year. I guess they did raise quite a bit of money for NE Rennies, too. The food (and the beer) and Northampton Brewery were excellent, too, so it was a winner all around. Of course the afternoon ended with a tinge of sadness, as we all toasted Scott/Sarum and sang Wild Mountain Thyme.
Today, I was planning to go ride my horse, but again, I can't get up the motivation to DO anything. *sigh* I know I would feel better if I would just go do something, but something is what I cannot do. Perhaps I will just try to go outside for a while, that's a start...

Haven't posted in a while, haven't been that busy, just not motivated, I guess.
We had our Flying Dragon ship's party a couple of weeks ago, it was good to see quite a few members of the crew. Except for one unfortunate incident *ahem*, it was a good time. And yes I DID wear my awesome metallic bronze blazer!
I made it to Birka for the first time last weekend, working for Black Dog Trading, as Silvermane was all set for workers. It was interesting working for someone else. I will say that my organizational skills did come in handy with set up and breakdown! I was also very proud of myself in that I didn't do very much walking around shopping, and I DIDN'T BUY ANYTHING! That is a first. I really couldn't afford to buy, but that generally doesn't stop me. I didn't get the chance to see any of the fighting or demonstrations, either. As a whole, I don't think I would go to Birka if I wasn't working, unless I had a bunch of money and needed a shopping fix. There ARE tons of cool vendors there, but I am at a stage where I have (at least) one of just about everything.
In other news, my garb closet suffered a catastrophe. The shelf/pole system collapsed! Gee, who would have thought garb was actually HEAVY! lol The one casualty was a ceramic flask I bought in Florida, one of the handles broke. I never even got to use it once. I am glueing it back together, I hope the glue holds. Will have to take a trip to Home Depot to get a sturdier closet pole and some better brackets. I should have known better, since the bedroom closet had a similar collapse a couple of years ago. Hindsight is 20/20! And yes, I will be reinforcing the OTHER closet at the same time...
That's about all that's happening. Trying to stay warm while keeping the heat down to 60 degrees so as to use as little oil as possible. Can't wait for warmer weather. Still looking for a job. If anyone knows of anything in the Hartford, CT area or Eastern CT, let me know. Getting less and less picky about what field it's in.
Won't be going to Wicked Faire, no money for that. Hope everyone who goes has a great time!
